Save a Gato

From Island Dog Inc. website:

The cat colonies of Old San Juan in Puerto Rico are in danger.
Save a Gato has been working to humanely control homeless cat populations since 2004 by TNR (trap, neuter, and return). Due to their hard work and persistence, they note the number of felines has decreased approximately 50%.

However, citing “health hazards,” Rosa Pérez Perdomo, the Secretary of Health for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, under the the
Puerto Rico Department of Health, has recommended that the San Juan National Historic Site cease allowing Save a Gato to continue feeding the felines and calls for the capture and removal of the cats as soon as possible.

It was only last October when approximately
80 pets were hurled from a bridge in Barceloneta following the mayor contracting a company to remove of animals from public housing. Help travesty from occurring again to the animals of Puerto Rico. Please voice your opposition to this type of inhumane method of animal control and ask that officials instead support the use of TNR.

THREE WAYS YOU CAN HELP:

1. Sign this
petition.

2. Please also voice your opinion to the Puerto Rico Department of Health, who recommended the capture of the cats:
Puerto Rico Department of Health
PO Box 70184
San Juan, Puerto Rico 00936

Save a Gato also recommends e-mailing
noguzman@act.dtop.gov.pr and nlrodriguez@fortaleza.gobierno.pr to voice your opposition to a proposal that not only calls for the removal of the cats, but also trees to accommodate more cars.

3. Support
Save a Gato and the other Puerto Rico and Caribbean animal welfare organizations, which work hard to benefit animals.
